Stationery Checklist

Wouldn’t it be nice if we all had the perfect 18 months in which to plan the perfect wedding, unfortunately life usually gets in the way of the best laid plans. So this checklist is designed not as a strict guide to what you should be ticking off the list and by when, but as a reference here to give you a gentle nudge in the right direction should you find yourself a little off schedule and let’s face it who isn’t from time to time.

Up to 18 months ahead:

  • Start a wedding planner in which to store all your ideas and inspirations to show to potential suppliers
  • Compose the guest list – put this in a spreadsheet so you can add more information as the planning develops including postal address, RSVPs, special dietary requirements, gifts received etc.
  • Send engagement party invitations if you are having one
  • Send thank you notes for any engagement gifts
  • Send save the date cards for the wedding

Up to 9 months ahead:

  • Start thinking about the wedding invitations
  • Request some samples or make an appointment to discuss your requirements

6 – 4 months ahead:

  • Finalise the invitation design and quantities

5 – 3 months ahead:

  • Send first wave of wedding invitations
  • Send second wave of wedding invitations (if any guests from the first wave had to decline their invitation)
  • Start thinking about ‘On The Day’ stationery for the wedding day itself and request samples
  • - Order of Service / Order of Ceremony / Order of The Day
    - Place Cards
    - Menus
    - Table Plan / Escort Cards and Table Names / Table Numbers
    - Confetti and Confetti cones
    - Readings or Custom Signs (such as ‘Reserved’ for seats at the ceremony)
    - Favour / Cake Boxes
    -Thank you notes

3 – 2 months ahead:

  • Send evening invitations
  • Finalise what you can for the ‘On The Day’ stationery and quantities. Table plans are difficult to confirm until the last minute
  • Order Thank You notes. Gifts may arrive before the wedding and you’ll want a few cards to hand

1 month – 2 weeks ahead:

  • Confirm the table plan and any other stationery yet to be confirmed

Up to 1 month after the wedding:

  • Send thank you cards for gifts, attendance at the wedding and to anyone who helped in any way at all
